I’m Carlo. That’s me in the black T-Shirt preaching to Melbourne’s ‘Salami Army’ at Northcote Town Hall.
I’m an advertising creative whose career has taken me from Melbourne to London to Sydney and back to Melbourne. I didn’t always want to work in advertising. Which is why I studied fine arts, photography and graphic design first. Thankfully, my HECS bill paid off.
I’ve been lucky enough to have worked at some of the best agencies in Australia with some extremely talented and smart people including BMF, Leo Burnett Sydney, TBWA Sydney, Clemenger BBDO Melbourne and presently at Saatchi&Saatchi Melbourne.
My work has been recognised and awarded at Cannes, D&AD, One Show, Clios, Spikes Asia, AdFest, New York Festivals, Award Awards, Effies, Caples, ADMA and Sirens. Personally, I’ve been recognised as one of the Top 50 creatives of the past decade in Australia by BestAds Creative Rankings.
Now back to that picture above. In 2012 I helped turn a joke between mates into an annual food festival that gained national TV coverage, a cult following in Melbourne and attracted crowds of up to 8,000 people. Co-founding the Melbourne Salami Festa was a way to celebrate a unique cultural food tradition and the migrants that brought it to Australia. The festival made salami making hip to a new generation of foodies attracting top chefs like Guy Grossi, Frank Camorra, Rosa Mitchell and Adrian Richardson as patrons and judges.
